The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 50-year-old John Vega, who has moved to a Johnson Street residence in Mount Vernon to Pennsylvania.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Vega a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Vega has deviate sexual intercourse and sexual contact with his 16-year-old victim in June 2002. He was arrested by the New York City Police Department Sex Offender Unit and convicted in May the following year of sodomizing and forcibly compelling his victim to have intercourse and was sentenced to 8 years in state prison.

Vega was accused of "immediately and physically overpowering" his victim - who was known to him - and allegedly struck her multiple times. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania State Police Sex Offender Registry
